Good To Know

What BDD requires

A known separation date, with your claim filed between 180 and 90 days before it
A completed Separation Health Assessment — Part A Self-Assessment
Service treatment records (if you file online, VA requests them for you; otherwise you provide copies)
Availability for VA exams within 45 days of filing
Fewer than 90 days left means the claim can't go through BDD, but you can still file before you separate

Source: VA.gov pre-discharge claims. Program rules change, so follow the live page if it differs from this one. Members in the medical separation process (IDES) follow a different path; ask your PEBLO and an accredited representative.
